Walsh Wants To Resume Talks With Casinos

BOSTON (AP) — Boston Mayor Martin Walsh says he requested the state delay its decision on whether the city should be named a "host community" for casino proposals in the eastern region because his administration hopes to resume discussions with Mohegan Sun and Wynn.

Walsh acknowledged the parties have not met in some time, but expressed hope they would in the coming days. He declined to elaborate on what the city would hope to discuss with the casino operators.

Wynn and Mohegan Sun oppose naming Boston a "host community" because it would open the door to city referendums on their projects.

The gaming commission Thursday morning postponed a decision on the host community issue, after Walsh asked for at least a weeklong delay and Gov. Deval Patrick backed him.
