Two Men Killed In Cape Skydiving Accident Identified
BARNSTABLE (CBS) – The two men who were killed in a tandem skydiving crash on the Cape over the weekend were identified Monday.
Andrew Munson, 29, of Nantucket, and his instructor, Eldon Burrier, 48, of West Lynnwood, Washington, died Sunday when they overshot their landing area and struck a shed in Marstons Mills.
The two were tied together for the tandem jump from a plane operated by Skydive Barnstable and, for reasons still unknown, they hit a shed on Race Lane in John Theriault's yard.
"I ran out, when I got about halfway here I could see it was a parachute and I was like, 'Oh no,'" he told WBZ-TV Monday.
"One was unconscious but breathing heavily," Theriault said, adding that the instructor was "semi-conscious."
"I stayed right there. We tried to cut the harness off so we could separate them, put them on the stretchers and get them some help."
Munson and Burrier were rushed to Cape Cod Hospital where they died.
"I don't think there's any words to say anything to the families. I just did what I could do," Theriault said.
Several agencies, including Barnstable police, state police, the Massachusetts Aeronautics Association, the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are looking into what happened.
