Vice President Mike Pence Holds Rally In Portsmouth, New Hampshire

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (CBS) - With just 13 days before the election, Vice President Mike Pence made a stop at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He's now on an aggressive schedule through battleground states.

It was an enthusiastic but not a sizeable crowd on a soggy afternoon. Still, the Vice President made the stakes clear. "The road to victory goes right through New Hampshire," said Pence.

With only four electoral votes New Hampshire is now considered a swing state, and the Vice President came to swing votes labeling democratic rival Joe Biden a socialist who will raise taxes. "Come November third do you want a Trump recovery or a Biden depression," he said.

He fired up the conservative crowd saying a Trump presidency means economic revival, a strong military and religious freedoms.

Recent polls show President Trump trailing Biden by as many as 12 points in New Hampshire. But many at the rally weren't buying the numbers. "I think a lot of people that are the silent majority will turn out to the polls," said supporter Gabby Daniels.

Some, not all, wore masks, and many stood close to each other as the Vice President claimed there's progress against the coronavirus. "We're just a matter of weeks away from having the first safe and effective vaccine and tens of millions of doses for the American people," Pence said.

New Hampshire may be a battleground Trump narrowly lost four years ago, but these supporters say he'll prevail for one reason. "I don't always like his mouth sometimes, but he says what's the truth," said supporter Marcia Curtis.
