Wake Held For Murdered Princeton Jogger

PRINCETON (CBS) -- A wake was held Monday for the Google executive and Leominster native attacked and murdered a week ago while jogging near her mother's Princeton house.

The wake for 27-year-old Vanessa Marcotte began at Brandon Funeral Home in Fitchburg at 4 p.m. Monday and was scheduled to last for several hours.

A steady stream of cars could be seen arriving at the funeral home. Between 20-30 of Marcotte's coworkers from Google arrived by bus to pay their respects.

Police say they have received more than 600 tips in the investigation into her murder. No arrests have been made.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday at that Fitchburg funeral home, following a mass at Our Lady of the Lake Church.

As Marcotte's family prepares to lay her to rest, the community has come together in a show of love and support.

More than 100 runners took part in a 3-mile jog in memory of Marcotte on Sunday.

In a Legacy.com obituary, Marcotte was remembered for her kind spirit and volunteerism.

"Vanessa embodied everything that is good in a human being," the obituary read. "She was kind, compassionate, bright, curious, charming, and vivacious. She was blessed with beauty, grace, a generous spirit, and a loving heart."

According to that obituary, the family is asking for contributions to be made in Vanessa's memory to Harlem Grown of New York City, Tutoring Plus of Cambridge, Inc., or to the Matt Light Foundation for Crohn's Disease.
