Van crashes into Foxboro YMCA leaving 4 children hurt
FOXBORO - Four children were rushed to the hospital Tuesday evening after a van crashed into the Foxboro YMCA.
Five kids were in the day care at the time of the crash and four of them were taken to the hospital. None of them have life-threatening injuries, according to police. All of the children were under the age of 5.
The van ran into children's play center at about 4:30 p.m. The driver works for Amigo, which transports adults with autism. The van had one passenger, and both the passenger and driver were okay.
"It's concerning. I'm worried about the families," said John Randall, CEO and president of Amigo. "I can't imagine having a kid with something like this happening"
It took several hours to remove the van from the building. it drove over a bollard which then lodged under the van, making it difficult to tow out.
"Our primary concern right now is with the children, the families and certainly our staff that went through this," said Jim Downs of the Hockomock Area YMCA. "Hoping that everybody is all right and will heal up very quickly."
The driver is cooperating with police. There's no word yet on what caused the crash or if charges will be filed. Inspectors will determine the building's structural integrity.
