'Unusual Amount' Of Whales Spotted Off Mass. Coast
BOSTON (CBS) --- New England Aquarium officials say 'an unusual amount' of whales are currently feasting on fish in Stellwagan Bank.
On a three-hour whale watching cruise, passengers are spotting between 20 and 30 Humpback Whales, officials tell WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
In addition, Minke and Finback whales are being spotted.

"The sand lances are what the whales are eating, about a million a day," said Laura Howes of the New England Aquarium. "It's not only feeding the whales but the seabirds and all types of big fish."
Howes says sand lances, an eel-like creature, are like "sea candy" for whales.
"It's been an exciting few weeks," she said.
Officials don't know exactly why there are so many sand lances in Stellwagan Bank or how long the whales will stay to feed off them.
