Roxbury Native's Miraculous Shot Helps UConn To 4-Overtime Tournament Win

ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS) – Roxbury native Jalen Adams is just a freshman at the University of Connecticut. But it's safe to say he may have already made the biggest shot of his career on the men's basketball team.

On Friday in the quarterfinal of the American Athletic Conference tournament, the Huskies allowed Cincinnati to hit what appeared to be the game-winning three pointer with .8 seconds to play in the game's third overtime.

But that's when Adams, who began his high school career at Melrose High School and went on to graduate from Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, grabbed the inbounds pass and heaved a three-quarter court shot toward the hoop.

The ball banked in off glass as the horn sounded, sending the crowd into a frenzy and forcing a fourth overtime.

UConn went on to win the game by a 104-97 margin in the fourth extra session to improve to 22-10 on the year.

Shabazz Napier, a fellow Roxbury native who led UConn to national titles in his freshman and senior seasons, was impressed with Adams timely shot.

The Huskies play Temple on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the AAC semifinal.

Adams has averaged 7.3 points per game and just over two rebounds per contest in about 23 minutes a game this season.
