Two workers seriously injured in Acushnet construction accident

ACUSHNET - Two workers were badly hurt in a construction collapse in Acushnet Tuesday afternoon.

The workers were installing roof trusses on a garage under construction on Perry Hill Road. The trusses collapsed, and the workers fell approximately 12-14 feet to the ground and the trusses fell on top of them.

Others workers at the site and a crane operator worked to clear the trusses to reach them before firefighters and police arrived.

The workers were quickly removed. Both sustained serious injuries but were conscious when they were transported to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford.

Federal safety officials are investigating what happened.
