Trump Campaigns In NH, Says He Will Restore American Dream
MANCHESTER, NH (CBS) - From the moment Donald Trump invited a member of the audience onto the stage to examine his hair and prove it is not a wig, it was clear that his appearance in New Hampshire was going to be unlike other presidential campaign stops.
Trump came to Manchester Community College Wednesday evening on the heels of announcing his candidacy in New York the day before.
"The American Dream is dead," he announced to the crowd of approximately 250 supporters. "But we will bring it back bigger and stronger and more powerfully than ever before."
The often bombastic businessman kept his message simple: the country is broken and he's the one to fix it.
"Politicians are all talk and no action," he told the crowd. "There's some bad things happening in our country and we will take care of it."
Trump opened things up for questions, but many attendees who had the chance to speak chose instead to praise the reality television star, calling him "unselfish" and "exactly what we need right now."
Before Trump took the stage, one man who organizers said was disturbing the event had to be physically removed and was later arrested. Tyler McMullen, 23, of Derry, was charged with disorderly conduct and simple assault for allegedly spitting at an officer and assaulting the security guards. It was unclear what McMullen was trying to do or what message he was attempting to communicate.
Others protesters waited for Trump to begin before sharing their messages more quietly. Several men help up signs during Trump's speech, apparently in response to the candidate's perceived anti-Mexican immigrant statements. Among his immigration plans, Trump wants to erect a wall along the US-Mexican border.
When asked what his message to voters is, Trump told WBZ "that we have to make our nation strong again, rich again and great again."
