Tracking Patriots Roster Cuts: Pats Officially Trim Roster To 53 Players
BOSTON (CBS) -- Tuesday is the day for the Patriots and every other NFL team to trim their roster to 53 players. The Patriots completed their work.
While Cam Newton was the biggest move of the day, the team still had a lot of other work to do in order to reach the 53-man number.
Below are all of the updates from the day, including the complete list of released players.
7:10 p.m.: The Patriots have finally made their moves official. Here's everything that happened today.
The Patriots placed DL Byron Cowart, CB Stephon Gilmore, LB Terez Hall and QB Jarrett Stidham on the reserve/physical unable to perform list.
The Patriots placed 2021 draft picks S Joshuah Bledsoe and LB Cameron McGrone on the reserve/non-football injury list.
The Patriots placed LB Anfernee Jennings on injured reserve.
The Patriots released the following players:
DL Montravius Adams
DL Tashawn Bower
DB Myles Bryant
DB Adrian Colbert
OL Korey Cunningham
OL James Ferentz
K Nick Folk
QB Brian Hoyer
CB Michael Jackson Sr.
TE Matt LaCosse
DL Bill Murray
QB Cam Newton
WR Tre Nixon
OL Alex Redmond
DB D'Angelo Ross
OL Will Sherman
DL Akeem Spence
DL Nick Thurman
DB Dee Virgin
WR Kristian Wilkerson
WR Isaiah Zuber
Expect some more moves in the coming days, as the Patriots place some players on IR (so they can return during the season), re-sign some released players (like Brian Hoyer), and potentially add players who got cut by other teams.
For now, this is the Patriots' 53-man roster:
QB (1) Mac Jones
RB (6) Brandon Bolden, Damien Harris, Rhamondre Stevenson, J.J.Taylor, Jakob Johnson, James White
WR (6) Nelson Agholor, Jakobi Meyers, Kendrick Bourne, N'Keal Harry, Matthew Slater, Gunner Olszewski
TE (3) Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry, Devin Asiasi
C (2) David Andrews, Ted Karras

T (4) Trent Brown, Yodny Cajuste, Justin Herron, Isaiah Wynn
DL (6) Henry Anderson, Christian Barmore, Cody Davis, Davon Godchaux, Lawrence Guy, Deatrich Wise
LB(9) Ja'whaun Bentley, Harvey Langi, Dont'a Hightower Matthew Judon, Brandon King, Ronnie Perkins, Josh Uche, Kyle VanNoy, Chase Winovich
CB (6) Justin Bethel, J.C. Jackson, Jonathan Jones, Jalen Mills, Shaun Wade, JoeJuan Williams
S (4) Kyle Dugger, Adrian Phillips, Devin McCourty, Cody Davis
ST (3) Quinn Nordin, Jake Bailey, Joe Cardona
6:11 p.m.: The Patriots' only other active quarterback, Brian Hoyer was released.

However, that may just be a procedural move. After the 53-man roster is set, the Patriots are likely to place a player -- like N'Keal Harry -- on IR, with the plan of having the injured player return later. Hoyer will likely re-sign as the backup after a player is placed on IR.
4:49 p.m.: The 4 p.m. deadline is long gone, but no more reports have come out on new releases. The full list may not be known until the Patriots make an official announcement at some point this evening.
3:20 p.m.: PFF's Doug Kyed says that Gunner Olszewski, J.J. Taylor and Harvey Langi will make the 53-man roster, as of now.
Obviously things are fluid around this time of year, but I'm hearing that WR Gunner Olszewski, RB J.J. Taylor and LB Harvey Langi are safe on the Patriots' initial 53-man roster.

The defensive tackle will be out for at least six weeks.
... and rookie Cameron McGrone is likely to start the season the non-injury list.
Not a major surprise, but it sounds like Patriots rookie LB Cameron McGrone, a 2021 fifth-round pick who tore his ACL in November, will begin the season on the non-football injury list. McGrone could start practicing after six weeks.

12:15 p.m.: OK, the Cam Newton news was rather big. It kind of derailed the process here. In that time, the Patriots released two defensive linemen: Akeem Spence and Montravius Adams.

The Patriots have waived rookie OL Will Sherman, the sixth-round pick from Colorado, per a source.
— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) August 31, 2021
Given the draft-pick investment, and Sherman's versatility, one would think he is a prime candidate to return on the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Tre Nixon, who was picked by Ernie Adams before the Patriots legend retired this spring, will be added to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
The #Patriots are waiving 7th-round WR Tre Nixon, source said. If he goes unclaimed, he'll go on practice squad.
