Man Who Struck Tow Truck Driver On 495 Was Speeding, Police Say

MIDDELBORO (CBS) -- The Dorchester driver who police say struck and critically injured a tow truck operator helping someone on I-495 in Middleboro is now facing charges.

The charges against David Mascarenhas, 29, include failure to change lane for an emergency vehicle, speeding and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Massachusetts State Police say Mascarenhas hit 33-year-old Jonathan Tetreault, of Wareham, as he assisted a disabled motor vehicle early Sunday morning.

Tetreault was critically injured and was in stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital Wednesday night.

A GoFundMe page has raised 3,000 for Tetreault's recovery.
