Toucher & Rich: Is Niklas Svedberg Being Showcased For A Trade?

BOSTON (CBS) - Toucher and Rich were joined by Joe Haggerty of Comcast SportsNet New England to discuss the Bruins 3-2 OT win over the Nashville Predators last night at the TD Garden.

Among the bright spots for the Bruins was 24-year-old goalie Niklas Svedberg, who in his NHL debut made 33 saves to help give the team the victory.

What's his ceiling, and is he being showcased for a trade?

Haggs says not so fast...

"They have Tuukka Rask obviously and Malcolm Subban is in the minors, it's certainly a possibility [that he's being showcased for a trade], but if anything happens to Rask then Svedberg will come up from Providence and be the guy - not Chad Johnson."

In his one game with Boston and his tenure in Providence, Haggs has been impressed with the development of Niklas Svedberg, who had the best season of any goaltender in the AHL last year.

Just judging by the way that Svedberg has had to adjust coming from Sweden where the ice size is much larger, Haggs thinks the 24-year-old could be a starter in the league someday.

"He's had his ups and downs, but he could be a number one somewhere," said Haggerty Friday morning.

Svedberg was sent back to Providence following the game.

Right winger Matt Fraser played in his eleventh game last night. He struggled to find his shots and his presence was hardly felt after nearly ten minutes of ice time.

Fraser has been one of the AHL's best players over the past three seasons, but in his games with Boston, Haggs says he's having a hard time adjusting to the fast pace.

With a deadly shot and skill set that reminds Haggerty of Glen Murray, you have to wonder if Fraser is simply just an AHL player.

Lastly, Haggs got into a Twitter beef last night with some Tyler Seguin fans.
