Toucher & Rich: Is Eric Decker A Fit In New England?
BOSTON (CBS) - Eric Decker is one of the top names among free agents this offseason, and certainly one of, if not the top player at his position.
It's evident that the Patriots are in dire need of receiving threats - unless of course they are banking on breakout second years from Aaron Dobson, Kenbrell Thompkins or Josh Boyce.
Should the Patriots make a run at Eric Decker?
Would he even be a fit here?
Better yet . . . can they even afford him?
Unless Decker is on your fantasy team, you probably don't have the full scouting report on him, so Darren McKee of 104.3 The Fan out in Denver provided some insight to the free-agent-to-be.
"Can he be a number one guy? Well I think he's a top twenty receiver in the league, so that makes him a number one guy right? He's deceptively fast, but he does drop balls. He will make these incredible plays as well as drop passes like you can't believe."
"He's really tough. He's large at about 6' 3" - he's a tough cover for a lot of corners. Don't forget now: Josh McDaniels drafted him. Are the Patriots willing to spend $8 million a year on Eric Decker? That's the question the Broncos have to answer too. I think the number is going to be around $7 or $8 million."
"The Patriots did not have the weapons without Rob Gronkowski. That was ugly out there [AFC Championship] - they just didn't have any size. A lot of speed, but no size."
After hearing all that - and seeing Decker play for yourself - do you want to see him in a Patriots uniform come OTAs?
