Toucher & Rich: Fred Destroys Dan Roche's Spirit On Truck Day

BOSTON (CBS) - Dan Roche is the eternal optimist, so it's no surprise to see the WBZ-TV sports anchor beaming with cheer Thursday morning, even with Boston buried under multiple feet of snow.

Why you ask? Because it's Truck Day!

Spring Training is right around the corner, which (hopefully) means warmer weather and sunny skies ahead here in New England. So to ring in this wonderful time of the year, 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich had on Roche to preview the Sox, but their conversation took a turn for the worse towards the end.

"Just enjoy it in your mind mentally as you're trudging through the snow, and everyone's in a bad mood driving, and everybody hates the world. You know, we're getting another storm this weekend. Just think of that good feeling of the ball and the glove and the bat, running of sprints," Roche said poetically.

"It's just a good day to ooze that enthusiasm for the game of baseball. That's what it's all about. That's why we should be happy on a day like today, despite everything else that goes around. Just enjoy life. Because it's much too short not to at this point."

After that soliloquy, Fred Toucher did the impossible: he crushed Roche's spirit . . . on Truck Day!

"Are you going to play catch with your son? Is your dad still alive?" asked Fred.

"Um no, he's not," Roche responded. "Now I'm just going to sit in my house and cry all day."

Roche took it all in stride though, and was a good sport throughout the whole interview.
