Toucher & Rich: Adolfo Tries To Debunk Clay Buchholz's Pitching-In-Heat Excuse

BOSTON (CBS) - The Red Sox were in action on Monday and played a scorching hot, 84-degree Memorial Day matinee in Atlanta against the Braves for some interleague action.

It was another rough outing for Sox starter Clay Buchholz, who allowed six earned runs, walked eight and failed to make it out of the fourth inning. He did get a base hit in his lone at-bat, which apparently forced him to be tired the rest of the game.

Buchholz told the assembled media afterwards that running to first base made him tired, and he was never quite right after that. The running, plus the summery weather conditions, was just too much for the 29-year-old Buchholz -- who, mind you, grew up in Texas.

Well, Toucher and Rich didn't feel like that was an adequate excuse. So they recreated the same conditions for Adolfo to see how he would do under the pressure.

Adolfo was strapped with four heating pads to simulate the heat, then ran 90 feet up and down the Sports Hub hallway to replicate home plate to first base. After catching his breath, which even Buchholz was allowed during the game, Adolfo took aim and threw three bags of Skittles at a catching target that Rich drew up.
