Torey Krug Among First 15 Players Named To 2015 U.S. Men's National Team
BOSTON (CBS) - Torey Krug would probably rather be in a deep playoff run in the NHL come May, but the Bruins defenseman gets a pretty cool consolation prize.
The 24-year-old regular guest of Zolak & Bertrand was among the first 15 players named to the U.S. Men's National team that will compete in the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship.
The tournament starts May 1 and concludes May 17 in the Czech Republic.
According to NESN's Billy Jaffe, this is the first time Krug has been asked to represent his country.
Krug finished the 2014-15 season as one of Boston's most reliable defensemen, specifically in the offensive end. Krug finished tied for fourth on the team in assists and tied for second in plus/minus.
Krug, who signed with the Bruins as a collegiate free agent in 2012, burst onto the Boston scene in the 2013 playoffs, when he scored four goals and added an assist in five games against the Rangers. In 27 career playoff games, he has six goals, 10 assists and a plus-3 rating.
Krug was signed to a one-year contract extension in March, a deal that will pay him $3.4 million next season.
