Tom Brady 'Humbled And Flattered' To See Gillette Stadium Banners

BOSTON (CBS) - Tom Brady's suspension will keep him out of the Patriots first four games this season and Gillette Stadium for the month of September, but he's touched by a tribute from the team in his absence.

In his weekly radio interview Thursday night with Jim Gray on Westwood One, Brady shared his thoughts about the two new giant banners of him hanging outside and inside Gillette Stadium.

"I think it was a very cool gesture by Mr. Kraft and the team. I'll be excited to be back out there in October, when I'm there for real. It was a really cool thing to do. I was certainly very humbled and flattered to see it. On social media I've seen quite a bit of it, but I have yet to see it in person," Brady said.

He also told Gray he didn't take the NFL sticker off the back of his helmet during the pre-season.

"No I didn't," Brady said laughing. "I don't even pay attention to what's on my helmet.  I just hope the helmet's functional."

And he reacted to Julian Edelman saying Brady's absence in Foxboro is like his best friend is in jail.

"Well, not quite jail," Brady said laughing again.

"I feel like I don't have the opportunity to do something I love to do. You know that's the hard part about the situation we're in. But, like I said, I'm going to try to be positive about that and spend some quality time with my family and pick my kids up from school and do some things I won't have the opportunity to do in October, November and December and for the years to come. Hopefully I can keep playing football for a long time and I don't have to ever sit out another September for as long as I'm playing."

Brady said he'll watch the first four Patriots games on TV and study them as if he was playing.  He also told Gray he's "excited" to see how his backup Jimmy Garoppolo "makes the most of his opportunity."
