Toddler Dies In Lawrence Foster Home
LAWRENCE (CBS) - The Essex District Attorney's Office and the state's Department of Children and Families are investigating the death of a 15-month-old girl in foster care.
The girl died at Lawrence General Hospital on Sunday morning, after the foster father called emergency services to report the child was unresponsive at their home on Howard Street.
According to the DA's Office, the girl did not show signs of trauma. The state's medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Neighbors say the couple was caring for four children at the house, at least two of them foster siblings including the victim's older brother.
"I just hope that justice comes, and everything comes out to the light and everyone knows what really happened to the baby," said neighbor Yesenia Reyes.
The foster dad told neighbor Hector Brito that the little girl who died came home from daycare on Friday with a high fever.
"It's easy to point the finger, but let's find out the story first," Brito said.
DCF, which places children in foster care, is also investigating the incident, the department confirmed.
"The Department of Children and Families received a report and is investigating in collaboration with law enforcement," said DCF spokesperson Andrea Grossman.
