Toddler From Ireland Gets Life-Saving Treatment In Boston
BOSTON (CBS) - A family from Ireland who is struggling to pay medical bills is getting some help in Boston.
Three-year-old Alisha Savage of County Cork is battling a rare and often deadly brain tumor. Her parents brought her to Dana Farber in Boston for life-saving medical care.
Alisha's mother Michelle says the brain tumor was diagnosed just a few months after her second birthday. "It's a very aggressive tumor and kids usually get it under the age of three," Michelle Savage says.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe reports
The family is getting some financial relief from The Ray Tye Medical Aid Foundation based in Braintree. Eileen Tye says helping people with life-threatening illnesses is something she and her late husband Ray always felt compelled to do.
"It's very important to me," Eileen Tye says. "To see a little child like this who is so beautiful and has so much to offer the world be going through and fighting for her life and that has to grab your heart and make you reach out."
For Michelle, the help from Ray Tye has been a Godsend.
"Just like a magic wand it was all taken away," Michelle Savage says. "We can spend more time on Alisha as well which is a big way of getting her through this."
A fundraiser will be held this Friday night at Florian Hall in Dorchester. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. CLICK HERE for more information.
