Thousands Turn Out For Funeral Of Abington Marine

ABINGTON (CBS) - Despite the cold and the snow, more than a thousand people turned out to honor fallen U.S. Marine Sgt. Daniel Vasselian on Thursday.

Vasselian's funeral was held at St. Bridget's Church in his hometown of Abington.

Vasselian, a 2004 graduate of Abington High School, served three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

He was killed in combat in Helmand province December 23.

Burial will be at Mount Vernon Cemetery.
