Thousands Participate In Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk
BOSTON (CBS) – More than 8,500 people took part in the annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk on Sunday.
The walk raises money for patient care and cancer research at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
A lot of the participants had very personal reasons for walking the 26.2 mile course from Hopkinton to Copley Square.
"My friend Caroline has a brain tumor. She's just 14 years old and a delightful child," Kathleen Potter of Hamilton said. "I would do anything for her."
Keri Pray of Foxboro walked the route for her four year old son who is now undergoing chemotherapy at Dana Farber. She is part of the team "Dillon's Defenders."
"Our son Dillon was diagnosed with leukemia back in 2012. We wanted to help and give back to the cause," Pray said.
The walk raises the most money of any single-day walk in the nation. Organizers say this year's event will raise $7.5 million.
