Every November, ice from the frozen Torne River is fused with the snow to remake the themed suites for the Icehotel in Sweden. Jukkasjarvi, Sweden was the location for the world's first Icehotel when it opened back in 1989. There are a total of 55 rooms at the hotel for guests looking for a unique, winter-themed getaway. The Icehotel is more than just a hotel — it is a work of art. All of the walls, floors and ceilings are canvases of designers from a variety of different creative disciplines. Every year, these artists come to create their works of art before the hotel melts in the spring.
The Icehotel is located just 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle and is nestled on the bank of one of the cleanest waters in all of Europe. The environment and surrounding nature is what makes the Icehotel the experience it is. Since 2008, the company has been working to build and rebuild rooms using energy-saving schemes that help reduce electricity, heating and water usage by hotel staff and guests. Because this is a seasonal hotel, the Icehotel is only open for business from mid-December through mid-April.
