The Adam Jones Show: Biggest Question Facing Patriots Is Health
BOSTON (CBS) - With training camp almost two weeks away, Mark Daniels from the Providence Journal joined Adam Jones to discuss the latest news on the New England Patriots.
Biggest question facing the Patriots heading into camp:
"It's all about health. When I say health, I want to point more to Rob Gronkowski. When he was out last year you could tell things on offense just weren't right. Who knows what's going to happen to Aaron Dobson as well, but with Gronk you have a deep threat and a red zone threat. I thought he was greatly, greatly missing last year.
Of course guys like Vince Wilfork, Tommy Kelly and Jerod Mayo were injured too. It's pretty crazy to think about all the guys that got injured last year. If you get these guys healthy? This was a team that got to the AFC Championship, so if everyone is healthy this is a team that should contend for a Super Bowl."
The newly-acquired Darrelle Revis did not play up to his potential in 2013 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as he was working his way back from surgery after an ACL injury in 2012. His health, obviously, will be of utmost importance to the Patriots' success as well.
On Revis:
"I thought last year his performance wasn't up to the Revis standards. I know he complained a little bit about the defense in Tampa Bay. I'm pretty intrigued to see him. Typically, unless your Adrian Peterson in Minnesota, you come back slower. I thought Revis was a little slower last year. I'm anticipating him to be better, but there's always a little bit of a concern with ACL injuries."
There are other questions facing the Patriots too, specifically the offense and how, if at all, it will adjust as Tom Brady gets older.
On the offense:
"You need to have all cylinders working. When I say that I mean you need a running game that's on point, you need the tight end's there to catch the ball and Gronk is expected back sometime soon. They don't have an elite receiver going into the season, but they did add one in Brandon LaFell. I would really expect this offense to mix it up. You can't get complacent in the NFL. You have to keep teams guessing, especially with a guy like Brady. You have to keep him upright and I think we saw them address that drafting three young offensive lineman. I think they're going to mix and match. It should be interesting. It should be entertaining."
