Texas Gov. Perry Stumps In New Hampshire For GOP Candidates
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (CBS) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry was indicted last week on felony charges that he abused his power but that didn't stop him from supporting Republicans running for office.
Perry was in the critical presidential campaign state of New Hampshire talking local issues such as the state's economy.
"You all have become less competitive in the business environment. You used to be one of the most competitive in the Northeast," Perry told a crowd in Portsmouth.
As for the state's high-profile Senate race, he didn't mention any names, but he clearly meant Jeanne Shaheen when he said:
"You have a United States Senate candidate that's voted with Barack Obama 99 percent of the time and I don't think she can stand in front of the people of New Hampshire and say 'I'm representing you.' Not only is this president very unpopular but his policies are very unpopular."
Perry focused on national issues such as the southern border, even suggesting barbaric Islamic militants may be here.
"There already may be ISIS cells, ISIS individuals in America, we don't know, they may have used our southern border," he said.
Though he admits there's no evidence that's happened, Perry said securing the border is critical.
"Do we need to wait until there's an attack on America before we secure the border?"
Perry said he doesn't know if he's running for president in 2016.
But he does have six stops in New Hampshire over the next couple of days.
