Man And Woman Wanted In String Of Carjackings, Robberies Arrested

BOSTON (CBS) – A New Hampshire man wanted in a string of carjackings and robberies in multiple states has been arrested, along with the woman who he was believed to be traveling with.

Michael Munroe, 33, allegedly started his crime spree on March 19 during a violent home invasion in Epping, N.H.

In the span of four days beginning on Tuesday, Munroe was arrested on drug charges in Tewksbury, became wanted for a carjacking in the same town, allegedly attempted carjacking in Reading, and was believed to have committed a bank robbery in Seabrook, N.H.

He was believed to be traveling with 29-year-old Rebecca Norton.

On Saturday, police in New Hampshire confirmed that Munroe was taken into custody in Hancock, N.H.

Police received a report of a car stuck with its lights on off a logging road at the end of Brimstone Corner Road at 10 p.m. on Friday, according to the Hancock Police Facebook page. Officers were unable to find anyone near the car, which was stuck in the mud and reported stolen out of Derry, New Hampshire.

Just after midnight Saturday, Hancock Police posted a photo to their Facebook page showing a car that had been stolen from Derry and abandoned in Hancock.

Police told WBZ-TV that the abandoned car was connected to Munroe and Norton's arrest.

Hancock Police were called to Bennington Road around 8:45 a.m. Saturday after receiving a report of two suspicious people going door-to-door, asking to use people's phones. Greenfield Police helped in the search for the duo.

A man, later identified as Munroe, was spotted by an officer near Hancock Market on Main Street. When the officer tried to get the man to identify himself, Munroe allegedly punched the officer in the face and ran.

Investigators say Munroe jumped into a Hancock Police cruiser and tried to put it in gear, but officers pulled him from the car to the ground and good Samaritans helped take him into custody.

Manchester Police have also confirmed that Munroe will be charged with a March 27 carjacking involving a knife.

Norton was later apprehended by a Greenfield Police officer while trying to flee, investigators said.

Munroe and the punched officer were taken to Monadnock Community Hospital after suffering minor injuries, police say. Munroe was then taken to Hillsborough County jail, while the officer was treated and released.

Several charges have been brought against Munroe including simple assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and felony possession of a controlled substance. He is being held on $500,000 cash bail.

Norton is facing charges of felony possession of a controlled substance and hindering apprehension. She is being held on $25,000 cash bail.

Both Munroe and Norton are set to be arraigned Monday in the 8th Circuit Court in Jaffrey.
