Carjacking Suspect Sprayed With Gas While Stealing Car In Tewksbury

TEWKSBURY (CBS) – Police say a woman sprayed gasoline on a carjacking suspect as he stole her car from a Tewksbury gas station Saturday night.

Tewksbury Police said the woman was at Circle K gas station on Andover Street when the incident happened around 7:30 p.m.

Surveillance video shows the suspect walking around the gas station as the woman pumps gas with the keys still in the vehicle. He then quickly hops into the driver's seat.

As the suspect drives away in the car, the woman holds on briefly and is dragged several feet before falling to the ground.

Police are actively investigating the carjacking, but no arrests have been made.

The woman's vehicle was found later Saturday night near a home in Lowell.

"We knew something was wrong once we saw all the police lights. It was pretty crazy," said Lowell resident Jennifer Butler.

Lowell Police are looking with K-9 units in an area near the Merrimack River and confirmed that the search is for the carjacking suspect.

No further details are currently available.
