SPRINGFIELD (CBS) -- With the help of Springfield Police, a young boy lived out his dream of being a police officer for a day.

Dozens of officers, EMTs, firefighters and state troopers lined up outside of Baystate Medical Center to meet the 5-year-old.

The boy's name and the nature of his illness were not disclosed.

The boy was given a badge and police hat and rode in a Springfield squad car, with lights on and the siren blazing.

"He will forever be remembered as an honorary Springfield Police Officer for his love and respect of law enforcement," the Springfield Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.
