Brockton Teens Allegedly Beat Man Who Turned Down Shoveling Service
BROCKTON (CBS) -- This is the time of year when kids look to make money shoveling people's driveways. Normally that situation works out well for homeowners, but one Brockton man says it turned into a beating for him.
The resident of Walnut Street told police he was out shoveling his driveway on Saturday about 2:45 p.m. when a group of 10 to 15 teenagers approached and asked if they could help. The man told police when he told them no, the teens beat him with a piece of wood.
"This is a shock to find out it actually happened this close to home," neighbor Collin Augustine said.
The man says his attackers fled toward Prospect Street.
Many in the neighborhood aren't surprised by the crime.
"I think the police should definitely patrol more. There's a lot of crimes and people here should be more protected by the police," Maureen Randall, a neighbor, said.
The alleged victim called 911 but when police arrived he refused medical treatment.
Brockton Police told WBZ their detectives are actively pursuing the case.
