14-year-old charged with threatening to shoot up Chelsea school
BOSTON - A 14-year-old boy has been charged with threatening to shoot up a Chelsea school after a fight with another student.
School staff said the boy attacked another student with a hanger on October 16. After school staff broke up the fight, the suspect screamed, "Dead, dead, everyone is dead! Going to come back with a gun and shoot everyone up!"
Police were called to the Shore Educational Collaborative on October 17, the day after the fight, when a student reported the suspect posted a picture of himself with guns on social media and threatened to go to the school and "shoot it up." The school official who called police said other students saw the post as well and didn't come to school that day.
"We have seen far too much school violence across our nation and those incidents force us to treat school threats with extreme seriousness and caution. No one should feel unsafe or threatened when they are attending school or work. Prevention is key here and it is always best to intervene before it escalates," Hayden said.
The suspect was arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on Monday and held on $750 bail. He is confined to his home confinement with GPS monitoring with the exception of an alternative school placement. He must also stay away from Shore Educational Collaborative and stay off social media.
