Police: Teen Bicyclist Intentionally Struck By Truck In Lowell

LOWELL (CBS) – Bike parts were strewn on Lawrence Street in Lowell Friday afternoon, evidence of what police call an intentional hit and run.

Police say a 15-year-old boy was riding his bike when he was struck by a white Chevrolet pickup truck.

"One of the witnesses actually says that the truck crossed over to the other lane to strike the kid on the bike," Lowell Police Capt. Timothy Crowley said.

The boy was flung into the air and suffered serious injuries.

The majority of his bike was dragged away by the truck.

Police say the teen was targeted, possibly the result of a verbal fight.

"There's information that there might have been a conversation between this kid, another kid and the occupants of the truck prior to this," Crowley said.

Police have located the truck, but the not the occupants or driver.

Police canvassed the area and were able to find the bike and the truck on Bolt Street in Lowell.

The boy was airlifted to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with serious injuries. He was then transferred to Boston Children's Hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition.

State and local police are investigating.
