Peanut butter beer? 2 Massachusetts companies team up to make it happen

EVERETT - Two neighboring businesses just four miles north of Boston are bringing peanut butter and beer together for a good cause.

Teddie Peanut Butter in Everett, Massachusetts has been producing its all-natural product since the Great Depression. They've been on Santilli Highway since 1960.  Across the street, there's another well-known business, Night Shift Brewing.

"For years we've had the smells of Teddie Peanut Butter across the street wafting over into our taproom," Night Shift co-founder Michael Oxton told WBZ-TV.

"It's a big part of the community. The football team practices next door, so they grow up smelling Teddie Peanut Butter. It's literally part of the community," said Teddie's director of sales and marketing, Mark Nazarian.

What is peanut butter beer?

The two companies decided to brew up a collaboration and donate some of the profits to charity. Oxton said working with peanut butter and its oils is tricky to incorporate into the brewing process.

"We took 35-pound buckets and our head brewer takes them, he incorporates them into the mash, basically just scooping them in," he told WBZ.

"Once they figured out how to make it, they approached us not long after with their Share the Night series, in which a dollar of every four-pack goes to a charity of our choice. It was a no brainer for us. We picked the Greater Boston Food Bank," Nazarian said.

"You crack open the Teddie Beer and the effervescence of that Teddie Peanut Butter, fresh roasted peanuts, it comes right out at you. It's like drinking a Teddie Peanut Butter sandwich. It doesn't get any better than that," Nazarian told WBZ.

The official tasting notes of the limited-edition release beer has rich flavors of cocoa and roasted peanut butter, and there's even two different versions for your peanut butter preference. Teddie Beer is for smooth lovers, while Teddie Super Chunky is for, you guessed it, chunky peanut butter fans.

"I would say Teddie drinks beer, especially Teddie beer. Teddie is just a regular guy," Nazarian said.
