Taunton Firefighters Run Into Burning Home To Save Disabled Woman
TAUNTON (CBS) -- Before they even had water to fight a fire, two Taunton firefighters rushed in to save a disabled woman from her burning home.
The two firefighters were met at the home by a frantic husband saying his wife was trapped in her bed.
"I knew time was of the essence, so I tried to rush in as fast as I could," Taunton Fire Capt. Matt Arruda told WBZ-TV.
They didn't have a water line yet, but knew they needed to act fact. By the time Lt. Greg Galligan arrived, the firefighters were already in.
"Those two guys who went, I said, 'Those two guys are brave as hell,' because it's that dangerous to do that," said Galligan. "I've been on this job a long time, and that is very rare to see that."
They dragged the woman out of the bed and out of the home. The mobile home was engulfed in flames minutes later.
She was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation, but is expected to survive.
