Harvard's Tommy Amaker A Prime Candidate For BC Job

BOSTON (CBS) - Joe Sullivan of the Boston Globe came on Toucher & Rich Thursday morning for a March Madness preview and also to provide his choices for the next man in charge of Boston College basketball.

After four seasons at the helm, Boston College showed coach Steve Donahue the door earlier this week after another disappointing season where the Eagles finished 8-24 and just 4-14 in ACC play. The team's 24 losses was their most in a season since 1998-99.

Donahue, who replaced Al Skinner in 2010, was just 54-76 during his brief tenure with the Eagles. BC made just one postseason appearance in Donahue's first season on the job; an NIT berth in 2011.

Now the search starts for the next man in charge, and Joe Sullivan thinks the university won't have to look far to find him.

"I think Tommy Amaker is a real candidate to be the BC coach. Doesn't it make sense? He wouldn't even have to move and he'd be back in the ACC where he played in college and where he was an assistant coach at Duke. It would be a really good hire by BC if they could get him."

Another candidate to keep an eye on is Providence head coach Ed Cooley, whose Friars are in the tournament for the first time in a decade despite key injuries and two highly recruited players getting suspended for the year.

Sullivan also previewed March Madness. His initial thoughts are that Syracuse is very vulnerable and won't last long, UMass is the most likely local team to make a run and Florida will be the team to win it all.
