Boston releases paperwork from sexual assault investigations against Suffolk County District Attorney candidate Ricardo Arroyo
BOSTON -- The City of Boston released the full investigative file into two sexual assault allegations against Boston City Councilor and Suffolk County District Attorney candidate Ricardo Arroyo.
The official finding in both cases was "unfounded" as Arroyo said they would be. But contrary to what he told the Boston Globe, they also show he knew of at least one of the investigations.
Much of the file has been redacted, so there are not many details about the accusations.
The file showed at least one accusation was made at school. Arroyo's attorney said it involved his girlfriend. The paperwork also showed the accuser claimed Arroyo called her and threatened her.
No charges were ever filed.
In a statement, Arroyo's campaign said in part: "It is clear from these new documents that the person who illegally leaked this issue to the media intentionally left out information that proved these allegations were unfounded in order to falsely attack Ricardo and try to win an election.
He faces incumbent D.A. Kevin Hayden in the primary.
Hayden released a statement through the district attorney's office, not his campaign, on Friday. "Nothing in the file suggests or indicates that the allegations were unfounded. Also, nothing in the file questions the validity of the victim's statements. The campaign to sabotage this victim's credibility is shameful."
