Fire tears through Sudbury home, killing person inside

SUDBURY - One person was killed and three others managed to escape when fire tore through a large home in Sudbury early Wednesday morning.

It started around 5 a.m. at a house on Goodman's Hill Road off Boston Post Road. Smoke could be seen pouring out of the back of the house just after sunrise.

There's no word yet on how the fire started. The identity of the victim, who was found in a bedroom, has not yet been released.

Police officer made "heroic" attempt to save victim

A Sudbury police officer who was first to arrive on scene ran inside the burning house. Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix said despite a "heroic" effort, the officer was unable to reach the victim because of heavy smoke and fire. The officer was hospitalized for smoke evaluation.

One of the three people who made it out of the house was also being evaluated at a hospital for their injuries.

The 9,000 square foot home is described online as having five bedrooms and six bathrooms.
