Sudbury Couple Killed In US Virgin Islands; Son Facing Charges
BOSTON (CBS) – Mikhail Young walked calmly into Framingham District Court Tuesday. He was expressionless, but the Sudbury 24-year-old is accused of a horrific crime.
Police say he brutally murdered his mom and dad, 67-year-old Jane Young and 73-year-old Kenneth Young on vacation. The family was spending a week in St. Thomas and they were set to come home, that's when police found the bodies of Jane and Kenneth Young in the rented condo.
Police in St. Thomas say, "Upon entry they discovered a male, injuries about the body."
Next they found Jane, stabbed to death in the bathtub and they learned the son they were vacationing with was gone.
"The son, Mikhail Young, had hastily entered into the office of the resort on Saturday requesting that a taxi be called for him," said Virgin Islands Police Commissioner Delroy Richards, Sr. "He caught a US Air flight to Philadelphia and connected to Boston."
St. Thomas police called Sudbury police, who picked up Mikhail at the Goodman's Hill home where he lived with his parents.
"We are just in shock," said family friend Patti LeBlanc-Gedney. "He loved them, so we just can't believe that he could have done that."
But Patti says Jane was more than a good friend and neighbor she was a beloved math teacher at Lincoln-Sudbury High School and just retired in January.
Patti says, "She is so wonderful, she is the best teacher."
And her young students already know the effect she had on all of them.
Riley Shaw says, "I really enjoyed her class was always really nice every day, sad to hear."
Young is being held by Sudbury police, charged with the fugitive from justice charge and will head back to St. Thomas to face the murder charges.
Friends say he has a history of mental illness and has had trouble with police prior.
