Metal Object Found In Sturbridge Halloween Candy Turns Out To Be Dental Piece

STURBRIDGE (CBS) -- Sturbridge police say a metal object found a trick-or-treater's Halloween candy turned out to be a dental piece.

The department had warned the public Thursday about a small piece of metal found in a "Now and Later" candy. They asked all parents to thoroughly examine their children's Halloween candy.

Police said a Facebook commenter recognized the object as dental work, and the parent who reported the incident was apologetic.

There have been concerns about Halloween candy safety in the region after police in Marshfield and Salem, New Hampshire reported parents finding needles in chocolate bars and Twizzlers.

And in Oak Bluffs, police say a parent found a nail in a mini Hershey's chocolate bar.
