'Stronger' Trailer Showcases Gyllenhaal As Marathon Bombing Survivor Bauman
BOSTON (CBS) – A trailer for the upcoming Boston Marathon bombing movie shows Jake Gyllenhaal portraying resilient blast survivor Jeff Bauman.
Bauman was 27 years old when he lost both his legs in the 2013 attack. His account of that day and his recovery are outlined in his memoir, "Stronger," which has been adapted into the movie of the same name.
The movie co-stars Tatiana Maslany as his girlfriend. Filming took place in Boston, and the trailer includes scenes at the finish line, at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, in the TD Garden and at Fenway Park.
A moment in the trailer also includes an actor playing Carlos Arredondo, the cowboy hat-wearing hero who helped Bauman and other victims after the bombing.
Gyllenhaal said at an event last April he and Bauman shared a vision for the movie.
"We're putting hope out there and positivity out there," Gyllenhaal said. "Given the state of the world as it is, it's the most important thing we can do and I know both of us feel that responsibility."
Bauman was asked how he felt having Gyllenhaal assume his identity.
"It's kind of freaky, because they're so good, they're so good," Bauman responded.
The movie is set to be in theaters on Sept. 22.
