'Storrowing' on Boston's Soldiers Field Road remains an annual problem
BOSTON - Despite multiple "Don't get #Storrowed" warnings from the state ahead of Boston's move-in week, that's exactly what happened to some unfortunate movers on Thursday.
This "Storrowing" actually happened on Soldiers Field Road in Brighton, ripping the roof right off of a too-tall U-Haul truck. The eastbound side of the road was temporarily closed so authorities could inspect the bridge.
No damage was found and all lanes were reopened shortly after.
Those driving a U-Haul or any other kind of moving truck should avoid Storrow Drive, Soldiers Field Road and Memorial Drive, where some overpasses are only 9 feet high.
"You've got to be a maniac to go down Storrow Drive in a truck," one man said after the latest "Storrowing."
The state said it is doing its best to prevent the annual occurrences by putting out warning signs telling people not to take their moving trucks down Storrow Drive. They are also working with rental companies, movers, and colleges to remind movers of this every September 1.
"I truly cannot imagine that happening to me. I would be so terrified and so scared," Michelle Slater said. "I feel like it probably is a lot of out-of-town drivers. Trouble navigating and things like that. I feel bad for the bridges most of all. As far as people, it's human error. It is a little funny.
