State Police: Drunk Driver Slams Into 2 Cruisers On Storrow Drive
BOSTON (CBS) -- One person was hurt in an overnight crash that Massachusetts State Police say was caused by a drunk driver.
The collision happened around 2:40 a.m. Sunday on Storrow Drive eastbound at the Charles Street exit.
State Police said two troopers had pulled over a 24-year-old Lynn man for motor vehicle violations, and were out of their vehicles and talking to him. One cruiser was parked behind the other, and their blue lights were on.
That's when they said a KIA Sportage came speeding into the area, striking the left rear of the first cruiser and pushing it into the back of the second.
In the domino-effect crash, that second cruiser was pushed into the Lynn man, who was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Neither of the troopers at the scene were injured.
The driver of that KIA, Eduardo DaSilva, 28 of Medford, was charged with operating under the influence, negligent operation, unlicensed operation, speeding, and failure to change lanes for an emergency vehicle.
He was taken to the Leverett Circle State Police barracks, and is being held on $10,040 bail.
DaSilva's KIA and the first cruiser had heavy damage and had to be towed from the scene, while the other cruiser had only minor damage to its rear.
