Storm Forces Thanksgiving Shoppers To Get Early Start
NEEDHAM (CBS BOSTON) -- It's the perfect recipe: Start with Thanksgiving and throw in a winter storm.
It had many shoppers trying to get their turkey and all the fixings a little early to avoid the impending weather.
"It's supposed to be before or after rush hour," said Esther Dezube. "Go to work? Not go to work? And who wants to stand in line tomorrow to pick up a turkey."
Dezube was standing in line at Owen's Poultry Farm in Needham that was already well out the door. One bird after another was hauled out to order, and it was an early rush.
"I want to get everything into the house, the turkey, the gravy and the squash," said Julie McDonough.
Don't forget the pies and don't forget the patience.
"I'm trying to get everything done today versus tomorrow. That's why I'm getting my turkey today," said Nancy Laveiro who's traveling to Connecticut and plans to leave late Tuesday night for her destination.
Supermarkets are also in overdrive with a dash of weather anxiety added in. Customers were swarming Roche Bros. in Westwood for their orders, some a day early, including Bridget O'Riordan who didn't want to deal with any potential snow.
"I have a minicar that I love, but I don't love it in the snow," she said. " I was going to get the turkey early tomorrow morning but I had the time."
She'll likely be thankful she did.
