Steeper Fines Take Effect For Illegal Parking Around Fenway

BOSTON (CBS) -- Fans planning to drive into Boston to see the Red Sox at Fenway Park this season will need to watch where they park.

An ordinance that takes effect Monday will more than double the fine for using residents-only spots on game days.

The fine used to be $40, now it's $100.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said the new rule is meant to restore the parking balance in the tight-knit neighborhoods around the ballpark

"Some of the neighbors have complained to us over the years about people taking their spots and parking there so we're going to increase the fines," he said. "But I think everyone's looking forward to the Red Sox Opening Day and the signs of spring."

The increased fines are in effect two hours before game time and two hours after the game ends.
