Trooper In Stable Condition After Being Hit By Car

BILLERICA (AP) — Authorities say a 33-year veteran of Massachusetts State Police was struck by a car during a traffic stop and suffered serious injuries.

Police say the 56-year-old trooper was out of his cruiser talking to a driver he stopped for a traffic violation on Route 3 near the Billerica/Chelmsford line when a car drifted into the breakdown lane and hit him. Police say the trooper was pinned between the two cars.

Police say the trooper suffered injuries to his upper and lower body and was in stable condition Thursday evening.

Police say the 53-year-old driver that struck the trooper stopped and their investigation is ongoing.

The injured trooper has not been identified.
