State Trooper Charged With Assaulting Off-Duty Carver Police Officer
PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — Authorities say a dispute over line cutting at a Massachusetts pharmacy has led to one state trooper being relieved of duty and charged with assault.
Plymouth police say 63-year-old State Police Sgt. Brian Duffy was at a CVS Pharmacy Tuesday trying to buy a Valentine's Day gift for his wife when an off-duty Carver police officer accused him of cutting in line. The two officers did not know each other.
Duffy told investigators he pushed the other officer because he thought the man was trying to block him from getting back in line.
Prosecutors say Duffy has been charged with assault and battery on a person over 60 and disturbing the peace.
A State Police spokesman says Duffy has been temporarily relieved from duty as required by agency policy.
