State Board Suspends New Hampshire Orthodontist
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — The New Hampshire Board of Dental Examiners has temporarily suspended the license of a Manchester orthodontist while it investigates allegations that he put patients at risk of infection.
The board announced Monday that it had suspended Nicholas Marshall's license on April 28, four days after an inspection of his office. Investigators say Marshall wasn't using instrument sterilization devices correctly, used a non-approved disinfectant to clean surfaces, threw biohazard materials such as bloodied gauze in the trash and was using a cracked lead apron while taking x-rays. Investigators also were concerned that an unlicensed receptionist was assisting him.
State health officials say patients should contact their doctors to discuss whether they should be tested for blood-borne infections. A phone message for Marshall was not immediately returned.
