'Squish The Commish' Shirts Backing Brady Recall 80s Rallying Cry
BOSTON (CBS) – It is 90 percent cotton, 10 percent polyester and 100 percent anti-Roger Goodell.
The item in question? Locally printed t-shirts that read "Squish the Commish."
If you are a longtime Patriots fan, you might be thinking "Hey! That's a ripoff of Squish the Fish! The 1980's rallying cry of the Super Bowl bound Pats!"
You're right and wrong.
Kyle Nagel is the creator of Squish the Commish.
"Me and my wife were sitting at lunch last week. We were trying to rhyme something with Goodell and she said 'Why don't you just do Squish the Commish?' I gave her the high five. Genius. And it's been a big hit since."
But Nagel isn't ripping anyone off.
Squish the Fish was his company's creation. Salem Sportswear was so successful he sold it to Fruit of the Loom.
30 years later, this t-shirt is for fun and charity.
"We are not keeping a penny of this. It all goes to Best Buddies," said Nagel.
Nagel hopes to write a big check to Best Buddies -- a Tom Brady favorite. So he started Squishthecommish.com.
He also bought TV and radio ads, including with WBZ and - until today - the NFL Network.
"They pulled all our ads off the NFL Network! I got a call from my media buyer who said someone called and told them to get them down. So they're not going to run any more spots," said Nagel.
But the shirt orders keep coming as Nagel, a diehard Patriots fan, waits for an extra-large legal victory for his favorite quarterback.
"I think he'll win. I think this will get resolved in his favor. I think we are all going to squish the commish,"predicts
