Southboro Disciplines DPW Workers Who Buried DOT Truck Under Snow Mound

SOUTHBORO (CBS) -- Some Southboro town employees are being disciplined for a plowing stunt during a February snowstorm.

Police said a town Public Works crew buried a state transportation truck that was left in their way in the middle of a parking lot.

The Mass. DOT truck is assigned to a state employee who lives in Southboro.

According to DOT policy, certain workers do not take the trucks home when they are not using them.

They are supposed to remain in municipal lots. In Southboro, that means at the police department.

It happened Feb. 5, during a storm that dumped 11 inches on Southboro.

Surveillance cameras show how other cars moved to the perimeter of the lot to make room for plows. The DOT truck was the only one left in the way.

The video shows plows pushing snow up against the truck repeatedly throughout the day and night, turning it into a big white mound.

According to the police report, when the DOT worker dug the truck out the next day, "...he observed a large section of the left rear quarter panel was dented."

Police did not charge the DPW employees, but they were disciplined.

Town Manager Mark Purple said in a statement: "The fact that the vehicle was completely covered to the extent that you could not tell there was a vehicle under the snow exhibits that the behavior was intentional."
