Snow Melters Clear The Way For More Anticipated Snow
MILTON (CBS) -- Two new snow melters were put into action on Friday, turning the accumulated snow and ice into steamy water.
The state's two newly acquired machines will allow operators to melt 120 tons of snow per hour, according to Tom Tinlin, MassDOT's Chief of Operations and Maintenance.
"That's equivalent to about 25 truckloads of snow every hour," Tinlin told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karyn Regal.
Worcester is among the first cities where the equipment will be used.
The melters have cost the state nearly $500,000, paid using emergency state funds.
