Gunshots Ring Out In Roxbury Ahead Of Leaders' Meeting On Violence
BOSTON (CBS) -- Children swimming at Cass Pool in Roxbury Monday afternoon ran for cover after gunshots rang out nearby.
Police responded to the area of Washington Street and MLK Jr. Boulevard. Police say shots were fired during a gathering after a funeral for a victim killed by violence last week.
The incident occurred just minutes before Boston's Mayor Marty Walsh, Boston Police, and local clergy met to discuss the recent uptick in violence.
"When shots ring out around a park around a swimming pool at two o'clock on a beautiful day, then we need that to stop," Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said.
Fortunately, no one was injured in this case.
Back on the Boulevard, life when on for the people of Roxbury despite what seems to be a growing threat.
"It's traumatizing and it's sad when people become you know kind of desensitized and used to it and it becomes a regular thing in our community," a resident said. "As long as the kids are the priority, we don't want to teach them that this is OK."
