Shooting Of NH Woman Leads To Largest Drug Bust 'In Recent History'

MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS/AP) — Police in Manchester, New Hampshire, say the shooting of a woman last week has led to three drug arrests and the seizure of heroin, Fentanyl, guns and over $200,000.

On June 22, Jeannette Hardy, 24, of Manchester, NH, was shot in her apartment in an attempted home invasion. Hardy was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the time.

Police who responded found nearly 2,000 grams of heroin in her apartment, which sparked an investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Massachusetts State Police, the Manchester, NH, Police Department, and the New England Division of the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Over four days, officials seized 22 kilograms of heroin and Fentanyl, worth more than $2 million in street value. Police also arrested three people, seized four handguns, two vehicles and $226,000 in cash. Officials also discovered an underground manufacturing plant operating out of a home in Lawrence, Mass.

Hardy was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute. Two other men, Luis Nieves, 33, of Haverhill, Mass., and Jose C. Casellas, 37 of Lawrence, Mass. were also arrested and face drug charges.

The investigation and seizure took place in Manchester and in Lawrence, and Methuen, Massachusetts.

"This was a noteworthy operation that prevented millions of dollars worth of heroin and fentanyl from being distributed on Massachusetts streets," Massachusetts State Police Colonel Timothy Alben said in a public statement. "This operation without a doubt saved the life of someone who would have overdosed on this poison."

New Hampshire officials called the bust, one of the state's " biggest heroin and Fentanyl seizures in recent history."
